So a great season by the BAYAHL C-Division's Bulldawgs was cut short at the last possible moment by a zebra that couldn't even ride the bumper cars at six flags. Who calls a penalty with 3 minutes left in overtime of a championship game?? The effort by all of the Bulldawgs was amazing, though. It was a great ride! Hope to see them all back next year!
It's been a good run.
For over six years, members of this nation of NotCuba have spent many Friday nights happily eating and drinking at TGI Friday's. To say we've earned the status of regulars would be an understatement. At least a dozen different servers have known many of us personally during that time span. In the not too distant past, that familiarity led to a higher standard of service of us, and resulted in higher gratuities for said servers. However, over the past year or so, that standard of service has dropped off considerably. Complimentary breadsticks are a thing of the past. Heck, even prompt service is a thing of the past. All of us have experienced several problems with servers having to repeatedly ask us what our orders are, only to have the final order be wrong. Dinners have taken as much as 45 minutes to be served following the taking of orders, even in a nearly empty restaurant. And worst of all, the familiarity we enjoyed with former servers has now turned into a sense that since we're regulars, we can be marginalized and will still be back for more. At the risk of quoting myself, last night's experience was, "A culmination of Suck."
It's being suggested by this blog that NotCubans of the greater Albany area now spend their Friday nights at Ruby Tuesdays (or some equivalent establishment.) Opinions on this idea would be welcome.
I would like to take the time to recognize the outstanding service provided over the years by Jan, Amy, Scott and TGI Kyle. You are all greatly missed!
If anyone out there wants to know what it's like to be a Buffalo Bills fan, I offer them...

Harith's idea of a reading list sounded like a good idea to me, so I decided to start one myself. However, since most people in my Vox neighborhood have likely read more books in the last six months than I have in the last 10 years, I'm hoping you guys have some good ideas for me. Again, stealing good ideas from Harith, I've started with Slaughterhouse Five. After twenty or so pages, I'm definitely enjoying Vonnegut's style.
I'm mostly interested in reading fiction, but I'm flexible. All good ideas are welcome!
Thanks to Steph, I was able to utter the above phrase in a positive and complimentary manner on Saturday night. Whilest preparing a few genuine meat products, I was served a grilled "vegetable-based chicked substitue". I was surprised to discover that it, indeed, did taste like chicken. I truly enjoyed the entire pseudo-chicken experience.
In other news, the cheeseburger I ate 5 minutes later was phenomenal.
I have the official results on the today's big over/under at the Scher Baby Shower. The final Las Vegas line closed at 57.5 ducks received by the Schers (in any form...stuffed animals, t-shirts, etc.) This handicapper correctly predicted that the over was a triple mortal lock. The total count finished at 79 total ducks. Stay tuned to this space for inside information on decorations during next weekend's wedding schedule at the Hall of Springs.
Seeing as how it's 1:30 in the morning right now, this particular Vox is going to remain in a bit of a minimalist state for at least the next 12 hours. Good to see all of you wonderful people! Looking forward to sharing in all the fun and hijinks that seem to be common place here...
What shows are you looking forward to in the new fall TV season?
Fall!?!? What shows are starting this Fall? Well I guess The Office, Earl and 30 Rock are something to look forward to but come on. The real shows, Battlestar Galactica, Lost and 24 (yes I'm still watching it) don't start up until January-February. There's the new season of the Simpsons but who looks forward to that anymore? The Family Guy Star Wars episode looks funny but after the brilliant Robot Chicken special it seems a little played. So I guess we have to wait until the deep freeze of winter to get excited about TV shows, which may not be a bad thing since I have about 3 months of yard work to look forward to starting in the next couple of weeks and come winter I will be ready to kick back and watch some TV.
